Description

The Monstera Deliciosa has been capturing hearts for generations, and we completely understand why. This gentle giant brings such warmth and character to any space with those iconic split leaves that develop naturally as the plant matures.

Originally from the rainforests of southern Mexico and Central America, she's perfectly adapted for indoor life and genuinely wants to thrive in your home. What makes her truly special are those beautiful fenestrations (the fancy term for the natural holes in her leaves) that aren't just stunning to look at—they actually help her survive in windy conditions by allowing air to flow through. In nature, she's a climber who uses aerial roots to scale trees while drawing nutrients from the humid air around her. While many Monstera varieties exist, this classic Monstera Deliciosa remains the most beloved for good reason.

Care

How do you care for an indoor Monstera deliciosa?

Caring for an indoor Monstera Deliciosa means providing bright indirect light near windows, weekly watering when the topsoil feels dry, and maintaining comfortable temperatures between sixty-five to eighty-five degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year for optimal healthy growth.

The beauty of Monstera plant care is that once you understand her basic needs, she's wonderfully forgiving. Place her where she can enjoy filtered sunlight—think of the dappled light filtering through a rainforest canopy. Water when the top 2-3 inches of soil feel dry to your touch, and she'll show her appreciation with new growth. A well-draining potting mix with some perlite keeps her roots comfortable, and during the growing season, a monthly feeding with balanced Monstera fertilizer helps support those magnificent leaves.

Should I mist my Monstera deliciosa?

Misting your Monstera Deliciosa helps increase humidity levels around her gorgeous leaves, which she truly appreciates since she naturally thrives in humid rainforest conditions where moisture levels stay consistently high throughout the growing seasons for healthy development.

It’s not absolutely necessary, but gentle misting makes her feel more at home, especially during dry winter months when indoor heating can reduce air moisture. Think of it as a little spa treatment for your plant friend. You can also place a humidity tray nearby or use a humidifier if you want to create that perfect environment.

How often should I water a Monstera deliciosa inside?

Water your Monstera Deliciosa inside every one to two weeks during growing season, carefully checking that the top two to three inches of soil feel completely dry before giving her another thorough drink to promote healthy growth.

The key to successful watering is paying attention to what your plant is telling you rather than following a strict schedule. In brighter locations, she'll be thirstier and may need weekly watering, while in lower light she can comfortably wait longer between drinks. We always recommend the finger test—stick your finger right into the soil to check moisture levels. This personal approach works much better than calendar-based watering and helps you build that wonderful connection with your plant.

What does a Monstera need to thrive?

A Monstera needs bright indirect light from windows, well-draining nutrient-rich soil mixtures, moderate to high humidity levels, consistent moisture without sogginess, adequate room to grow and climb upward, plus warm stable temperatures year-round for optimal health and development.

Creating the right environment is about understanding her natural habitat and bringing those conditions indoors in a gentle way. She loves having space to spread those magnificent leaves and really appreciates a moss pole or trellis to support her climbing nature.

What do Monstera deliciosa like to be potted in?

Monstera Deliciosa like being potted in well-draining organic-rich soil blends with excellent drainage capabilities, typically combining high-quality potting soil with perlite and orchid bark chunks for optimal aeration and proper drainage throughout the root system for healthy plant development.

The perfect soil mix holds just enough moisture without becoming soggy—imagine the texture of a well-made chocolate cake that's moist but not wet. Adding perlite or bark chips creates those important air pockets that keep her roots breathing comfortably. Always choose a pot with drainage holes because good drainage is one of the most loving things you can provide for your plant.

Where is the best place to put a Monstera plant?

The best place to put a Monstera plant is near large windows that provide bright indirect light throughout the day, such as living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices with east or west-facing window exposure for optimal growing conditions.

Bathrooms and kitchens with natural light are also wonderful spots because of their naturally higher humidity levels, which makes her feel right at home. Avoid placing her directly in harsh afternoon sun from south-facing windows—think gentle morning light or filtered afternoon glow instead.

Should I put my Monstera in the window?

You should place your Monstera near a window with bright filtered light rather than directly in harsh afternoon sun exposure, which can easily scorch her delicate leaves and cause permanent brown damage throughout the foliage that ruins her natural beauty.

East or west-facing windows are perfect because she can enjoy gentle morning sun without dealing with those intense afternoon rays that are too much for her rainforest sensibilities. If you only have a south-facing window, position her a few feet back or use a sheer curtain to create that perfect filtered light she craves.

Is Monstera deliciosa a good indoor plant?

Monstera deliciosa is an excellent indoor plant choice because it adapts remarkably well to home environments, tolerates various indoor conditions gracefully, purifies air effectively, and creates absolutely stunning visual impact in any space while requiring minimal daily care.

She's genuinely designed for sharing our homes—forgiving when life gets busy, adaptable to different light situations, and grows at a thoughtful pace that won't overwhelm your space. Plus, those beautiful large leaves work hard to clean your air while creating that lush, peaceful atmosphere we all crave. For plant parents who want a meaningful relationship with a plant that gives back as much as it receives, she's truly special.

Pet-friendly?

The Monstera deliciosa is not pet-friendly, as all parts contain calcium oxalate crystals that are harmful to cats, dogs, and other pets if eaten. We always recommend keeping this beautiful plant safely out of reach of curious furry family members who might be tempted to explore with their mouths.

Is Monstera deliciosa toxic to dogs?

Monstera deliciosa is toxic to dogs because calcium oxalate crystals throughout the plant cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing if any of the parts are ingested, meaning you’ll need immediate veterinary attention for safety.

Is Monstera deliciosa toxic to cats?

Monstera Deliciosa is toxic to cats. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause immediate mouth irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and potentially even more severe symptoms if large amounts of it are consumed by your curious felines.

Factoids

Is Monstera deliciosa toxic to touch?

Monstera deliciosa sap can cause mild skin irritation or rashes in sensitive individuals due to calcium oxalate crystals in plant tissues, but it's generally safe to touch during normal handling and care. Always wash your hands after pruning or repotting.

Is it safe to have a Monstera in your bedroom?

Having a Monstera in your bedroom is completely safe for most people, provided pets and children can’t get access the plant. It also offers excellent air-purifying benefits, giving you better sleep quality while creating a beautiful ambience.

She actually makes a wonderful bedroom companion—those magnificent leaves work quietly through the night to filter toxins from your air while you rest. Just ensure she gets adequate light near a window and that curious pets or little ones can't reach her. Many of our customers find having plants in their sleep space creates a calming, nurturing environment that helps them unwind at the end of each day.

Are Monstera deliciosa air purifiers?

Monstera deliciosa is an effective air purifier that helps filter harmful toxins and improve indoor air quality. They’re popular choices for homes and offices where you need natural air purification solutions that also provide stunning visual appeal.

Those impressive leaves aren't just for show—they're working steadily to clean your air throughout the day and night. She's particularly good at removing formaldehyde and other common indoor pollutants that can accumulate in our homes. While she won't replace a mechanical air purifier, she definitely contributes to a healthier indoor environment while looking absolutely beautiful doing it. It's like having a living air filter that also brings joy to your daily routine.

What is the origin of the name Monstera deliciosa?

The name Monstera deliciosa is made up of the Latin words meaning "monstrous", referring to the dramatic split leaves with striking fenestrations, and "delicious", specifically referencing the plant's edible fruit when it reaches full ripeness in natural habitats.

It's a name that perfectly captures both her dramatic visual impact and her hidden culinary talents.

Is Monstera deliciosa known by any other names?

The Monstera deliciosa is known by many names, including Swiss cheese plant, split-leaf philodendron, fruit salad plant, delicious monster, ceriman, windowleaf, Mexican breadfruit, and Penglai banana, with names varying by different geographic regions and plant communities worldwide.

The "Swiss cheese plant" nickname is probably the most popular because of those distinctive holes that look like nature's own artwork. "Split-leaf philodendron" stuck even though she's not technically a philodendron—sometimes plant names take on a life of their own!

Why does Monstera deliciosa have holes in its leaves?

Those distinctive holes are brilliant evolutionary adaptations that prevent wind damage by allowing air to flow through the leaves in her native rainforest environment, while also helping rainwater reach the forest floor to support the entire ecosystem around her.

Can you eat Monstera deliciosa fruit?

You can eat Monstera Deliciosa fruit only when it reaches full ripeness, as it tastes like a delightful blend of pineapple and banana, but unripe fruit contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals that cause mouth discomfort and should be avoided completely.

It Works! (Mustang 2016 ecoboost knocking noise)
Style: Modifier
I recently experienced a remarkable transformation in my 2016 Mustang Ecoboost, thanks to the LIQUI MOLY Oil Additive Cera Tec 3721. As someone with a passion for automobiles and a background as a software engineer, I'm always on the lookout for ways to improve my vehicle's performance. This product turned out to be a game-changer. One of the issues I had been facing with my Mustang was a persistent knocking noise, which can be quite concerning for any car enthusiast. After researching potential solutions, I decided to give LIQUI MOLY Cera Tec 3721 a try. And I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. The primary reason I opted for this oil additive was its promise of ceramic wear and tear protection. As someone who values the longevity of my vehicles, I wanted to reduce engine friction and wear as much as possible. This product did exactly that. The moment I started using it, I noticed a significant reduction in engine noise, especially the knocking sound that had been bothering me. It provided a smoother engine performance, and the difference was noticeable. What impressed me even more was the impact on fuel consumption. As someone who loves to travel and has explored six states during my time in the USA, fuel efficiency is a key concern. LIQUI MOLY Cera Tec 3721 not only improved my engine's performance but also led to lower fuel consumption. This means fewer stops at the gas station and more miles of adventure. Moreover, being a mentor and research assistant, I appreciate the science behind this product. It's clear that LIQUI MOLY has put considerable effort into developing a high-quality additive that benefits both petrol and diesel engines. This is the kind of innovation that I believe will shape the future of the automotive industry. In conclusion, LIQUI MOLY Oil Additive Cera Tec 3721 has not only fixed the knocking noise in my Mustang but has also enhanced its overall performance. It's a product that aligns with my goal of staying at the forefront of technology and innovation in the IT sector, even when it comes to my car. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve engine performance, reduce friction, and achieve better fuel efficiency. It's a small investment with significant returns for your vehicle.

Skeptical...... to Believer

I've waited awhile to write this review, to see how time effected my opinion. A little background, my daughter really wanted a 328i, so I went out and found a clean, single owner vehicle with a little over 100k on it. Its the family's first BMW, but as a mechanic I've seen and worked on them all. The BMW N52 engine seems overly complicated for what it does. Power output and economy are just average even though its got just about every bell and whistle including variable valve timing. One thing that struck me was how noisy it was. Kinda like a quiet sewing machine. I changed the oil to Mobil 1 0w/40 Euro blend and she drove it for 7k miles. During this time I read up on all the LL/01 oils for this car, so next oil change I used Castrol Edge, which is LL/01 certified. No difference. Car runs well, still sounds like a sewing machine. 7k more miles go by, and I learn about this CeraTec additive, and decide to give it a try based on all the good reviews. Yup, looks like a Orange Julius!! Well, I dump it it, and take it around the block. Engine seems a little quieter and smoother, but figure its my brain screwing with me. I slam the hood, and give my daughter the keys back, and off she goes. And here's where it gets interesting.... My 19 year old daughter doesnt know squat about cars. She a 100% gas it up and go girl. So about 2 weeks after the CeraTec goes in we are sitting at the dinner table and she says... " Oh Daddy, I forgot to thank you for tuning up my car". I ask her what makes her think I did? She replies that since the last service its much smoother idling at red lights and its quieter. (Remember, she's driven it for 7500 miles at this point) I asked her how could she tell, as the radio is always at least half volume. She says when its running and she's got the window down ordering at a drive -thru it used to go "tickity-tickity" ( her words)as it echo'ed off the building.. and now its silent. I go out and fire it up and roll down the window and stick my head out.... yup. Silent and verrry smooth. She also has average MPG constantly on display , and its improved about .65 mpg. So, if you add all that up, it seems to work. Liqui-Moly says its lasts 30k miles. I service the car every 7k, so we'll see if this all stays the same after a service, which is coming up soon. The car uses zero oil between services, so I cant comment on that. But from a smoothness, quietness point of view, if my daughter noticed it without me prompting her, I would say thats what made me a believer more than anything. Thanks Liqui-Moly.

My 2018 Mustang GT BBQ Tick went away but came back.
Style: Modifier
Update 1-26-2019: The BBQ/Typewriter tick came back this morning. So, I'd say that if you're trying to use the Ceratec to quiet the tick, it will work for a little while, but will eventually return. I don't think there's anything else that can be done to quiet the tick and it's a crap shoot if you get it serviced. In my case, it only ticks during warm up after the transition from high idle, and goes away completely once the entire engine is fully warmed up, so I'm just going to live with it. I'm still giving the Ceratec a 5 because it did reduce my friction enough for a small MPG improvement, so I believe it works as advertised and I'm not going to blame them for not silencing the tick. Update 1-20-2019: After a few days with only the one bottle poured in, my tick came back. Since one bottle is only 1/2 the recommended concentration for the 10 quarts in a 2018 Mustang GT, I bought another bottle and added it and the tick is now gone again. We'll see if it lasts. I can tell you that my fuel economy has improved. I have a little over 11,000 miles now and I always display my fuel economy meter and I use it. I've never reset my average fuel economy meter since the day I bought the car new. I've been pretty well stuck at 21.6 MPG for the last couple months. Since I've put in the Ceratec, my average fuel economy has increased to 21.8 MPG, so it's jumped 0.2 MPG in roughly 2 weeks. With over 11,000 miles included in the average, it takes a pretty significant improvement in friction to make that average move that much in that short a time. Even if my tick comes back again, I'm sold on Ceratec for the friction reduction alone. I'll update the review again if the tick comes back. Original Review: My 2018 Mustang GT developed the infamous BBQ/Typewriter tick immedaitely after my first oil change. I used Mobil One synthetic at 3500 miles on my first oil change. I did my 2nd oil change at 10K miles with Mobile One, but the tick was still present. After seeing people on YouTube having success eliminating their tick with Ceratec and after reading the one other review of a 2018 Mustang GT owner here on Amazon, I decided to try it. I ordered 1 bottle. It arrived on a Friday and poured it in immediately after I got home from work. It's an hour drive one way to work, so the engine was at operating temperature, where, in my case, the tick goes away. I only get it when the engine switches from high idle to normal idle after a cold start and the tick is quite loud for at least the 15 minutes it takes for me to get to the drive through where I get my morning coffee, where I can really hear the tick echoing off the wall. After pouring it in, I started the car and let it idle, but didn't really notice any change. I then took it for a drive and did some hard pulls to get the engine to rev under load to the red line. After that, I put the car in the garage until I drove to work on Monday. When I went to the drive through to get my morning coffee, there was no tick! It was gone! I listened real hard, but all I could hear was the normal direct injector pump noise. Then, after my hour long drive to work, I left car running and got out to listen. With the hood closed, it was quieter than at any time since I bought it. It was virtually silent. Even the DI pump noise was barely audible. The car also sounded and felt different during the drive to work. The engine seemed like it was smoother somehow. It might have been my imagination, but after the silence in my parking spot at work, I wouldn't be surprised if the engine did run smoother. At any rate, I only used 1 bottle to treat the 10 quarts of oil, which is half the amount the mfg says to use. So, I'll see how long it lasts, but it definitely worked even at half its normal concentration. I highly recommend it for anyone who has the 2018 Mustang GT tick.

Must have in modern high compression GDI engines!
Style: Modifier
So bought this for my new Mazda 3 Turbos' first oil change. I was originally going to use Liqui Moly MoS2, due to the OE Mazda oil using a very high Moly PPM (800ish) formula and not having easy access to a similarly formulated oil. After doing some more reading i decided to use Ceratec instead, mostly because it doesn't make the oil look super dark (for warranty purposes, If for some reason i do have a problem with the engin i don't want the dealer saying I just didn't change my oil). So initial results are awesome, the valve noise is pretty much gone. And the engin just feels smoother, and sounds like is not even trying when reving it out. With that success I bought another one for my girlfriends non turbo CX30 when i changed her oil. Her engine has always been just a little noisier than my old non turbo mazda 3, and my new Turbo model. I've used the same oil in both (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 or 5w30 in the turbo). It had the normal lifter noise, but it always sounded raspy when accelerating hard, like it was really at the edge when floored. So as a before and after test I changed the oil fist with NO Ceratec, engin sounded happier, ran a little smoother, but basically the same as before, Normal stuff after an oil change. So I added the Ceratec, literally you could hear the lifter noise melt away as it mixed with the oil, I was in my garage so the effect was even more stark. The engine also idled smoother, to the point if you were in the car, you wouldn't know it was on without the engine RPM readout. So i took it for a test drive down the road and stepped on it after getting it up to Temp. The raspiness was completely gone, it sounded like it was happy as a clam reving right up to redline. This wasn't a "i think it might be better" differance, it was a night and day difference, a wow that impressive difference. As for fuel consumption reduction claims, i don't know yet, from what i read you need to dive it 300-400 miles to get a valid result. I only have 150ish on mine and 75 on hers. First impressions were really positive, highly recommend to anyone wanting to keep a car for a really long time. Only downside is the price, this stuff is really expensive... but i look at it like this, $600 over the life if the vehicle if you keep it to 150K miles, with 6k oil change intervals is pretty cheap insurance. compared to an engine rebuild.
