Under 9 Div 5 - Lost 2 - 0 vs Pacific Hills Dural

A great day for football. The rain held off and the sun shone long enough to see a huge improvement in the team - a vastly better team performance - despite losing 2-0.

Rohan and Xavier shared the goal-keeping job and did very well to keep the score low.

Will, Genna, Dominic and Louis ran around all day hassling the opposition.

Lucca cleared the ball well several times.

Zac, Jack and Alexander really took the ball up well and were unlucky not to score.

Player of the day goes to Alexander for his work on the ball.

Well done players - cotnrol and passing made a huge difference to your performance today.

If we get the "urgency" leevl right we wil be int he winners circle before we know it!

Cheers

Coach BP

Under 10 Div 6 - Lost 3-1 vs Gladesville Sharks

After the past few weeks having been cancelled due to wet weather, the team were keen to get back onto the field for a run on the new upper oval at Eastwood.  We played a good game, defended well and scored a goal, however suffered our first defeat for the season to the competition leaders.

A strong effort from all, with good coverage of the field and passing of the ball.  Our Best and Fairest this week was Michael P, however great efforts in defending against a skilled left winger from Isaac A, Oliver D, and James M.

 Well done players.

Under 14 Div 4 Lost 3 -2 vs North Epping Rangers

Apologies to all those I rang early for the ground change, at least we all made it there for the start.

Our young Woodies travelled over to a very wet Westminster Oval to play the North Epping Rangers. As usual our boys started very slowly and there were plenty of midfield tussels. Michael made a couple of brilliant saves cementing his claim as our best goalie. North Epping Rangers had two or three defenders taking Gabriel out of the game however he still managed to get a good strike away. Eastwood St Andrews 1 v Epping Rangers 0. The Rangers came back with a flurry and Michael produced another great save. A few minutes inside the half time break an "own goal" from a corner saw a change in the momentum. Half-time Eastwood StAndrews 1 v North Epping Rangers 1.

There is nothing good that I can write about the next 15 minutes, the Rangers ran free and put on another 3 goals. North Epping Rangers 4 v Eastwood St Andrews 1. Finally our young Woodies re-grouped as a team and a concerted effort was made into our forward line. Gabriel who had been shut down, with some rough tactics, for most of the game - got a penalty in the box. Rangers 4 Eastwood 2. Again our boys pushed forward and after several wide shots - Alan produced a fantastic left foot strike. North Epping Rangers 4 v Eastwood St Andrews 3. Unfortunately we had left our run too late - and that was the final score.

Goals - Gabriel 2 & Alan 1

Coach's Best - John, Michael, Steven.

Under 17 Div 1 - Won 3 - 0 vs Hills Hawks

In what had been the most anticipated clash of the season, an excellent performance by the Woodies confirmed them as the top Under 17 team in the disctrict - at the moment.

On a pitch that looked more ready to host a Water Polo match than Football, Eastwood took an early lead through what was a freakish shot - or possibly miss directed cross - from Mal, which sailed over the head of the keeper and into the back of the net. After that there were few first half chances even though the Woods were running towards the "shallow end" and the boys went to the break up 1 - 0.

The second half started with a spate of free kicks with the Hawks players becoming visbly more frustrated. Tom had a great chance to double the score but could not find his footing in the bog that was the goal square, and hit the woodwork with an open goal beckoning. Soon after however Michael was pulled down in the box and Liam calmly slotted the penalty for a 2 - 0 lead.

Even in the wet, the match was played at a cracking pace with some ferocious taclking from both teams. You could hear the force of the hits from the sideline with many parents and spectators visibly "feeling" each hit as if they were involved.

The third goal for Eastwood was one worthy of a dry day, with excellent build up and a great cross from James D seeing Liam put away his second of the day to secure the 3 - 0 win.

A great game played in excellent spirit by the boys. Now they have set a standard that we hope they cvan live up to in the second half of the season.

Under 17 Sydney Cup - Result undecided at this time vs Lidcombe Waratah

An interesting game which was called off early due to some alleged violence against the Referee by a Lidcombe player.

Updates once result confirmed.
