Grading in 2016 - Some Junior Teams
For the 2016 season we will be grading some of the junior teams. The players will be graded on their ability and placed into an appropriate division.
It is important that we remain competitive with the other GHFA teams in the association (who are also graded). It also allows our players to play against opposition that is appropriate for their skill level. When kids are seeing more of the ball this usually equates to a more rapid player development, increased confidence as well as more enjoyment and fun, which is what we are all trying to achieve.
It will stop stronger players in an age group dominating less able players, as happens in lower age groups, as well as encouraging less aggressive, athletic or able players by giving them more opportunity to have the ball during games. There is no benefit for weaker players to not see much of the ball, and conversely, the stronger players will be challenged a lot more in a stronger competition which will further develop their ability.
We will not be looking at all teams, but instead looking at perhaps establishing a first team in each age group from the under 8’s and then allocating them the appropriate division. If there is particular interest in an age group then we will extend it through to 2, 3 or even 4 graded teams.
We will hold some trials in February 2016 and we encourage all kids in the age groups to come along to the trials regardless of their skills ability as it will enable us to make sure that they are slotted into a team in 2016 which enables them to best grow their skills and abilities.
We all want what is best for our kids, and rest assured that the formation of teams will be done with the kids' best interests in mind.
We will again offer the Kick-Start program in 2016,
If you have any further questions or would like to discuss the process with me please email me. I look forward to seeing you all in 2016.

The first is the establishment of a new Annual award in honour of one of our founding brothers Nigel Lee. The Nigel Lee award will replace the current President Award and will be for a team that encompasses everything about being a Woody. There will be 4 categories which each team will be judged on 2 on the field and 2 off the field.
The award will be presented at the annual Presentation Day and there will be a perpetual trophy and individual medals for the team members.
St Andrews Netball Club 2016
The second was the announcement of the St Andrews Netball Club for 2016. Epping YMCA Netball Club will be reforming under our banner for the 2016 season. They are part of the ERNA association with their games played at Brush Farm and Meadowbank. If you are interested in more information on this please feel free to give me a call.
Double Double Team of 2005
Finally the Grand Final shirts that were worn by the Double Double team of 2005 were handed out to all the attending players in recognition of their achievement those 10 years ago. For those of you whom may be asking what is the Double Double, it was the Premier League whom achieve the Premierships in both First and Reserve Grade (Double) and then went on to win the Grand Final in Both First and Reserve Grade (Double), hence the Double Double. This achievement to my knowledge has only ever been done one other time in the history of the Premier League.
All-in-all the inaugural Woodsfest was an amazing night, and one that looks set to become the must-attend event of parents and senior team players of the mighty Woodies Football Club.
Thank you for taking the time to read my long email but there is so much to say. I hope you enjoyed the season 2015. Details about the Presentation Day and our Annual General Meeting will be sent around next week, with the results of course of this weekend’s exciting finals.
Congratulations to All of our Raffle Winners from Back to Eastwood Day
What a great day on Saturday and it was great to see so many Woodies players down at Eastwood in our colours. Big thank you to the Premier League boys and the committee for putting on a fantastic day. Great team work. Didn’t stop off the field either with great team work on the field with 3 of the 4 senior teams bringing home victories O35(5)’s winning 5-0, Reserve Grade 2-0 & First grade 3-0. O35(1)’s were unlucky have their first loss of the year going down 2-3, but it was an exciting game never the less.
The raffle was drawn at the Eastwood club, a big thank you to them for helping with the draw. Ray Blunt (President Eastwood Club) and Greg Voss (Woodies Club Patron) were the 2 responsible for Drawing out all the tickets so if yours didn’t come out you can ask them for a beer next time you see them.

GROUND SET UP
Setting up the Grounds
Dressing the grounds is a requirement of teams that have their first game on a field each weekend and undressing the grounds is the requirement of the team playing last. It would be great if the parents could get involved as the coaches and managers will be trying to get the team ready for the game so if parents can help out it is much appreciated. Please check the draw to see if your team is the first team to play at Eastwood.
Thank you all for helping get us up and running for 2015. Any questions please feel free to contact your Manager or Coach.
